A CATALYST FOR CHANGE

The Change Center is a safe, strategically located, center-city partnership facility that provides relational, recreational, leadership development, and job initiatives for teens and young adults.

COMPONENTS THAT WORK

ENTREPRENEURSHIP CENTER

A joint venture between High Profile Enterprises and The Change Center.

JOBS INITIATIVE

The different facets of what the Change Center will work together to create employment and entrepreneurial opportunities.

1

DIRECT ENTRY LEVEL JOBS AND TRAINING

The Change Center will directly employ up to 40 entry level part-time jobs during any one time period, which will be used for opportunities for job vetting, training, accountability, and experience for teen and young adult employees. In addition, there will be opportunities for 10 full-time employees. The Change Center will also partner with and encourage facility use by both for-profits (such as the Hard Knox Pizza School of Hard Knox), and nonprofits (such as SEEED) for job training and other entry level job opportunities for inner-city teens and young adults.
2

JOBS CONNECTION

The Change Center will recruit and partner with any and all willing employers to connect vetted inner-city youth and young adults to existing job opportunities in the community.
3

ENTREPRENEURIAL JOB CREATION

The Change Center will partner with and align all entrepreneurial support resources in the community that are willing to focus on unique business creation opportunities that benefit inner-city teens and young adults. Based in part on a gang prevention initiative called Homeboy Industries in Los Angeles, whose motto is "the best way to stop a bullet is a job", The Change Center will identify potential markets (for example, church landscaping, home weatherization, and graffiti removal), community partners and business mentors, and entrepreneurial-minded teens and young adults willing to work hard and to learn from business mentoring to build job-creating inner-city businesses.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP TRAINING

Youth leadership development for The Change Center includes a Youth 4 Change Advisory Council, comprised of young people, grades five through twelve, who attend inner-city schools. This board will speak for youth in the community and express their needs and ideas while providing leadership development and skill building support.

ENTREPRENEURIAL MENTORSHIP

Entrepreneurial mentorship in The Change Center will match adult mentors from the community with youth and introduce them to the daily operations of The Change Center. This multi-generational mentoring will equip interested youth with employable skills and also help to sustain The Change Center by training youth to eventually operate The Change Center and to mentor others.

IN-LINE HOCKEY

In-line hockey will introduce youth to the game of hockey and create opportunities for interested youth to transition into ice hockey. Members of The Knoxville Ice Bears and a number of hockey enthusiasts from the community will train and coach the kids.

RECORDING & MIXING STUDIO

This professional and versatile audio production studio will be run by teens as part of the Job Initiatives program. With top quality audio processing equipment, the studio meets the needs of any artist or band.
