Volunteer and Community Service Opportunities at the Change Center

What are the eligibility criteria to volunteer at the Change Center?

All persons interested in volunteering at the Change Center must complete an application.  In addition, individuals who volunteer to work with youth under the age of eighteen must submit to a background check.  This background check will be conducted by Net Gain Mobile Diagnostics. The cost of the background check is $25.00 at the expense of the volunteer.

If I am volunteering my time why should I submit to a background screen?

Non-profits must screen volunteers preventing individuals with certain crimes from being a part of their organization.  Background checks are often legislated and the non-profit has a certain level of due diligence and responsibility, especially when working with vulnerable populations such as youth.

In what areas of the Change Center will individuals be able to volunteer?

Areas identified, but not limited to, where individuals will be able to volunteer are:

Receptionist Area, Chaperone, Parking Lot Patrol, Job Skills Training, Lobby Entrance, Assembly of Stage, Facility Maintenance (painting, etc.) and Cleanup.  When special events are held during the week and part-time student employees are in school the assistance of volunteers may be needed.

Will volunteers have to go through a training before they can volunteer?

Volunteers will have an on-the job training with the supervisor of designated areas.

Is there a minimum age limit to volunteer at the Change Center?

The minimum age for volunteering at the Change Center is sixteen years of age.

Who should I contact if interested in volunteering at the Change Center?

Individuals should contact Dr. Kathy Sims, Director of Human Resources, at (865) 951-1567, or via email at kathysims@changecenterknoxville.com
